The government in its affidavit stated that "with a view to lay down a comprehensive legal framework governing digital personal data protection in India, MeitY has formulated a draft bill titled 'The Digital Personal Data Protection Bill, 2022'." It had initiated a "stakeholder consultation exercise on the draft bill, inviting comments from the public on November 18, the last date for receipt of which was January 2.
